Today I created my first herb spiral using the urbanite I rescued from the patio at the remodel. It was easy and fun. I used small chunks of urbanite to create the base in the shape of a cone, covered it with a mixture of soil, organic manure, organic mulch and worm castings, arranged the urbanite in a spiral and planted the herbs. I then covered the the plants with an organic mulch I made from tree branches I pruned a few months ago. It was that quick! Herb spirals are unique because each side of a spiral is in the sun at different times during the day. They are also compact. What a simple way to start organic gardening and save the landfill!
