Tip : My town does not recycle #5 plastic, I save them and mail them to Preserve Gimme5 who in turn recycles them into toothbrushes & cutting boards.
Tip : Make sun tea. Instead of boiling water, fill a glass jar with drinking water, add tea bags, and set it outside in the sun for the day.
Tip : Plastic freaks me out, so for years I've been drinking out of glass bottles. I buy them once and re-use them. (Glass juice jars are perfect for this too!) Simple and easy and water tastes better!
Tip : After I steam vegetables, I let the water in the pan cool and then toss it out into the yard or use it to water house plants.
Tip : I reuse the glass wine bottles I cook with,(think large openings) and turn them into coin storage/banks. We also paint them to be reused as water pitchers or koolaid containers as well as gifts.
Tip : Since I don't have recycling in my area, I save all my bottles etc. and take them to my daughter's bin when I go. The newspapers go to the local school. Food scraps that would go into a trash, I use for making compost
Tip : For birthdays, I wrap the present in newspaper or old magazines then put it in a canvas bag so the recipient can use the bag for grocery shopping.
