simple steps
Green Living and GivingBy Greg Peterson
On Thanksgiving we eat. The day after we shop and we eat some more.
The malls are packed and the restaurants are full. We live in a culture of consumption and, from a free-market perspective, we have earned the right to consume which we seem to do voraciously.
It's nice to know that we can continue to do this and still live a green lifestyle. Living green is simply about becoming educated and conscious of the choices that we make. Green gift giving is no different. It's about making different choices.
The good news is green living and giving has shifted from being "crunchy" to chic, and impersonal to unique. So this is the perfect year to consider giving green gifts that might help shift the perspective of your friends and loved ones.
Gifts no longer need to be just a product that is beautifully wrapped, now they can embody a bit of the growing passion to care for our planet and future generations by living a more mindful, healthy life. Even if "green" isn't in the forefront of your gift recipients' minds, but it is important to you, why not share a unique gift that embodies the importance of living green?
The good news is our website can help! We have designed Your Guide To Green with a no preaching, and definitely no suffering approach, to offer a variety of tips, weekly innovative articles, many simple ways to save money and be kinder to our environment and great green products.
For example, consider replacing all those plastic bottles that you use with high-grade stainless steel drinking bottles here . They are better for your health as they don't leach chemicals into the water like the plastic bottles do. AND, by replacing the one-use plastic bottles with the stainless you are eliminating hundreds of plastic bottles from the trashcan. I am often asked where to get the water to fill your new bottle. We offer an incredible 10 Stage Water Filter that can be installed on the counter top or under it at premium 10 stage water filter
Then there are the pesky plastic bags that we see everywhere including in the tree down the street. There are a plethora of plastic bag replacements available from cotton, canvas to hemp and…well plastic. We offer the Green Sak, a woven plastic bag that looks and feels like cloth and has the durability to last a thousand times or more and we have a great list of grocery bags to choose from. One of my favorites is the replacement produce bags that we carry for you to use instead of the plastic produce bag…yea! Shopping Bags
I would also like to invite you to cruise around our website shopping cart http://www.yourguidetogreen.com/store/ for many other great gift ideas. Our staff has spent a lot of time searching for great products like beautiful recycled glassware, eco Yoga mats, energy and water-saving devices and body and health care items. As we continue to research and test, we will be bringing you many more in the coming months.
Finally, if you want to encourage socially responsible giving among your family and friends, and are looking for a non-profit organization to support, I suggest two: The Natural Resources Defense Council (www.NRDC.org) and The Nature Conservancy ( www.nature.org ). They are two of the largest environmental, apolitical non-profits in the world and both encourage protection of the land, water and air.
Green living and giving is the tune for this holiday season: Join me in moving beyond living green and give green this holiday season!
